Photo Exhibition to mark tourism meet the Press Series

Accra (Greater Accra) 10 April 2000

 

Mr Mike Gizo, Minister of Tourism, on Friday cut the tape to open a five-day Tourism Photo Exhibition at the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board as part of activities marking the 2000 Meet-the-Press series.

The exhibition, which seeks to afford people from all walks of life the opportunity to see Ghana's achievements in pictures, models, graphic presentation and statistical data, among others, is under the theme "A decade for Africa Tourism: Ghana - an Emerging Tourist Destination".

The Ministry of Tourism, Ghana Tourism Board, Ghana Tourism Development company, and the Hotel, Catering and Tourism Training Centre are organising it.

Mr Gizo said the exhibition will expose at first hand the enormous potential of the tourism industry, strategies adopted so far in the development, promotion and marketing of tourism products.

This, he said, is a prelude to the Ministry's presentation on 11 April of this year's Meet-the-Press series at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Communications in Accra.

By this, the Tourism Ministry hopes to relate more closely with all stockholders, industry, tourists, the education sector, donors, the Ministry of Finance, Parliamentarians and members of the inky fraternity.

The minister said, through the exhibition, the Ministry hopes to advance its public awareness initiative to achieve a large measures of understanding of the industry's requirements.

Volta Region selects beauty queen

Ho (Volta Region) 10 April 2000

 

A 19-year old second year student of Saint Francis Training College, Hohoe, was on Saturday crowned Miss Volta Region out of six contestants in the first round of the Regional Club Pleasure 2000 Beauty Pageant and Dance Championship in Ho.

She received 500,000 cedis as her prize while Miss Amanda C. Tiganoah, a 20 year-old student and Miss Doreen Adapoe, 21 also a student received 450,000 cedis and 300,000 cedis for placing second and third respectively.

In the dance championship, Mr Jerry Quartey, a 23-year old footballer won the freestyle dance with Mr Jack Kwaku, an 18 year-old dancer emerging first in the highlife category out of a field of 17 contestants. Both received 400,000 cedis each.

The Club Pleasure 2000 Beauty Pageant and Dance Championship are being organised by Media Whiz Kids with Club Beer as the major sponsor.

Other sponsors are Akosombo Textiles Limited, Graphic Showbix, Joy FM, Labadi Beach Hotel, Hydraform Estates, Vodi Technick, Revlon, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Vibe FM, Iroko Furniture, Ghana Airways, Buck Press and Village Fresh.

The ceremony was attended by Lt. Col. Charles Agbenaza (RTD), Volta Regional Minister, Capt. George Nfodjo (RTD), Ho District Chief Executive and Miss Sugri Bugri, Miss Ghana 1999.
