Accra (Greater Accra) 10 April 2000
Mr Mike Gizo, Minister of Tourism, on Friday cut the tape to open a five-day Tourism Photo Exhibition at the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board as part of activities marking the 2000 Meet-the-Press series.
The exhibition, which seeks to afford people from all walks of life the opportunity to see Ghana's achievements in pictures, models, graphic presentation and statistical data, among others, is under the theme "A decade for Africa Tourism: Ghana - an Emerging Tourist Destination".
The Ministry of Tourism, Ghana Tourism Board, Ghana Tourism Development company, and the Hotel, Catering and Tourism Training Centre are organising it.
Mr Gizo said the exhibition will expose at first hand the enormous potential of the tourism industry, strategies adopted so far in the development, promotion and marketing of tourism products.
This, he said, is a prelude to the Ministry's presentation on 11 April of this year's Meet-the-Press series at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Communications in Accra.
By this, the Tourism Ministry hopes to relate more closely with all stockholders, industry, tourists, the education sector, donors, the Ministry of Finance, Parliamentarians and members of the inky fraternity.
The minister said, through the exhibition, the Ministry hopes to advance its public awareness initiative to achieve a large measures of understanding of the industry's requirements.
