Contractor remanded over rape of epileptic girl

 Tema {Greater Accra} 05 April 2000.

A Tema Circuit Tribunal on Monday remanded a 36-year-old stone contractor at Ashaiman in prison custody for allegedly raping an 18-year-old epileptic. John Tokpa, who pleaded not guilty, will re-appear on April 10.

The Prosecution told the tribunal, chaired by Mr. R.C. Azumah, that while the victims parent let for work on 30 March and she was relaxing in an uncompleted structure in the House, Tokpa allegedly entered the room, removed her panties, and started having sex with her.

She cried out and one Emmanuel Mensah, who lives in the same house, peeped through a window and saw the accused in the act. The prosecution said Mensah then called Miss Georgina Osei Owusu, a co-tenant, who raised an alarm, compelling the accused to hide in one of the uncompleted rooms in the house. People rushed to the scene, arrested Tokpa and sent him to the Ashaiman police station.

According to the prosecution, the victim's father later detected that there was semen on the girl's thighs and on the foam mattress on which she was lying.
