Man with three wives charged with defiling 13 year old

Accra(Greater Accra), 29^th April ’99 –

Solomon Adjei, an employee of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), who allegedly defiled a girl at knife point on two occasions, was on Wednesday remanded in custody by a circuit tribunal until May 10.

Adjei, 42, who is alleged to have three wives, pleaded not guilty to two counts of threat of death and defilement.

Police Inspector Alex Yartey Tawiah told the tribunal that the accused lives in the same house with a co-worker who has a 13-year-old daughter.

The prosecutor said at about 1500 hours on April 25, the victim returned from school and the accused, who was then at home, took advantage of the absence of her parents and invited her into his room.

He said Adjei then allegedly locked the door, and at knife-point, forcibly removed her under-wear and had sex with her.

He then warned the victim not to tell anyone else he would kill her.

On April 27 after the victim had returned from school, Adjei again dragged her into his room and at knife-point had sex with her and warned her again not to tell anyone.

The prosecution said at about 2000 hours the following day, the victim complained of sickness and informed her mother of the defilement. The woman also informed her husband.

The prosecutor said the victim's father reported the matter to Dansoman Police who issued her with a medical form to go to hospital after which the matter was referred to the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Police.

At the same tribunal, Benjamin Tagoe, a telephonist of Ghana Telecom, appeared before it charged with defiling a 14-year-old girl.

Tagoe pleaded not guilty and was remanded to appear again on May five.

The prosecution said on April 25 the accused saw the victim at a public toilet and invited her into his room in a nearby house and defiled her.

The mother of the victim who was looking for her saw her coming from the room of the accused.

She interrogated her daughter who said Tagoe invited her into his room where he defiled her.
